Poetry: Holy Black Caps!

During the last few years, I've been writing a poem each day and posting it on Facebook. Most of my poems are celebrations of natural beauty; a few are ethical/political commentaries with some bite.

You can see more poems by visiting my new Facebook page.

I also have a published book of poetry out now. Inquire at revted9@gmail.com

Holy Black Caps!

©2023 Rev. Ted Tollefson

We wind our way
along a well-worn path
to our neighboring meadow
where each day begins
and in this early light

Black caps are turning
darker and sweeter
bringing forth hosannahs
from taste buds.

Who would have guessed
that such tiny berries
could hold so much joy
and transport us
to a sanctuary of satiated delight?

Thanks to this communion
that is older than Abraham
and sweeter than Jesus
we come home with hands anointed
with the juice and seeds
of holy black caps!
